First hour

If all goes well, Maggie Lamothe-Boudreau will produce 6,000 queen bees this summer for Quebec beekeepers with her company Rayons de Miel . An important link in agriculture - a third of what we produce depends on pollination by domestic bees - queen bee breeding is carried out by fewer than ten beekeepers in Quebec, including two women. And Maggie has quite a background. She has just complete her master's degree in beekeeping science and begin a genomics research project. A collaboration with CRSAD - Deschambault Animal Science Research Center and Université Laval that will allow the best individuals from a colony to be selected by decoding the bees' DNA. Eugénie met her this morning with five foreign workers in Saint-Adrien-d'Irlande in the Appalachians.
